Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Transportation Manager, the Floating Driver provides transportation for frail and elderly participants from their homes to the centers and vice versa. The Floating Driver provides delivery and pick up of meals, supplies and medications for participants on an as requested basis by management in addition to performing pre/post trip inspections.

Essential Functions and Work Responsibilities

Functional Category: Driving

Estimated Percent of time Spent 80%

  • Drives InnovAge vehicles in a safe and responsible manner which includes; utilizing defensive driving skills, following InnovAge policies, procedures and assigned routes.
  • Loads and unloads participants in and out of InnovAge vehicles and assists participants into and out of their homes in adherence to InnovAge policies and procedures.
  • Transports participants to all appointments that have been arranged by the dispatcher.
  • Delivers in-home meals, supplies, durable medical equipment (DME) and medications to participants.
  • Assists participants into their homes and helps with simple tasks when necessary and appropriate, such as; helping participants with outerwear and moving of items that are obstructing walking paths.
  • Keeps Dispatch updated on all events of their assigned routes.
  • Maintains safety and cleanliness of assigned vehicle and coordinates scheduling of van maintenance with the Manager of Transportation.
  • Assists other Drivers with the loading and unloading of participants arriving and exiting the Center.

Estimated Percent of time Spent 10%

  • Serves as a (BTW) Trainer for new hire training, as well as any needed ride-a-longs with existing employees.
  • Arranges and re-arranges the training schedules of trainees in cooperation with the Safety & Loss Transportation Specialist.
  • Communicates the status of Trainees to the Safety & Loss Transportation Specialist, Fleet Manager, and the Director of Transportation.
  • Acts as a replacement classroom trainer for the Safety & Loss Transportation Specialist as needed.Functional Category: Additional
  • Estimated Percent of time Spent 10%
  • Functions in a float position for company locations as requested by following established routes for IGCP. Informs dispatch regarding location and availability to ensure constant availability.
  • Checks e-mail communications throughout the day in order to determine any changes made to same day/next day routes.
  • Acts as a replacement Pharmacy Courier as needed.
  • Additional work functions and duties may be assigned

REQUIRED

Education

  • High school diploma or GED

Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation

  • Requires valid state issued drivers license and good driving record.
  • Current certification of PASS Train the Trainer certification or ability to obtain certification upon employment required

Work Experience and Qualifications

  • A minimum of six (6) months driving experience is required with the previous six (6) months being collision and incident free *Collision and incident free implies that the individual was not found culpable if involved in either a collision or incident.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have six months experience transporting individuals with special mobility needs

PREFERRED

Work Experience and Qualifications

  • Current DDS four (4) hour trainer certification is preferred.
