Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Manger of ADHC Services, the Activities Assistant is responsible for assisting with the implementation of activities for participants that are tailored to the needs and limitations of the frail and elderly.

Essential Functions and Work Responsibilities

Functional Category: Participant Care

Estimated Percent of time Spent - 100

Assists with the development and implementation of recreational activities that meet the interests, needs and capabilities of participants under the supervision of Recreation Therapist.

Assesses and re-assesses participants functional status in relationship to participation in recreational activities, in collaboration with the Recreation Therapist.

Assists participants with non-skilled activities of daily living.

Leads and/or assists in large groups, small groups 1:1s and individual activities such as exercise, arts and crafts, games and current events. Assists in the organizing of special events and outings, in collaboration with the Recreation Therapist.

Performs preparation and cleanup of activities by putting away supplies and straightening out activity areas.

Attends meetings regarding participant care as assigned by the Recreation Therapist.

Assists Day Center staff in providing lunch service and assistance with arriving participants, as appropriate and approved by the ADHC Supervisor.

Job Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required.

Work Experience and Qualifications


A minimum of one year experience working with the frail or elderly required.


Experience working with the elderly or frail in a position that designed and implemented activities preferred.

Other Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required

Computer Skills

Must be computer proficient and possess experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Must be able to quickly learn specific software and new applications.

Mathematical/Financial Skills

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Able to analyze data and statistics and draw reasonable conclusions and compile accurate reports.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze and interpret regulations and other documents.
